The Great Plains menus consist of many sub menus, “or menu palettes”. You can customize each palette, by company, by adding options for accessing additional screens, macros, or even external tasks. You also can remove items from a palette if you don’t use them with a particular company. For example, if you use Sales Order Processing features in one of your companies but not in another, you may want to remove the Sales Order Processing selections from the Sales series palettes for that company. The screen below shows the palette setup screen, and as you can see the Company Reports menu has only five menu options.

We can customize this menu by selecting the ADD button as shown below:

In this example we want to add a sixth menu option for fast access to the company’s Ratio Reports. When the user selects this option in the future, FRx is automatically launched and the Ratio Report is displayed on screen.

While this type of functionality may seem trivial to some, the reality is that features like this allow end users to customize the system to the way they work. The result can be hundreds of hours of saved time over the course of a year. Most accounting systems and ERP solutions do not offer this type of functionality, or if they do the tools required are so complex that such changes are not reasonable.
